Largest group in Facebook search: Are We Dating The Same Guy? | New Haven / Milford CT · about 24K members
“Are We Dating The Same Guy” is a network of private Facebook groups, each one tied to a city or region. Women join the group for where they live, post a photo or a screenshot of a man they’ve met or matched with, and ask whether anyone else knows him. Here is how that works in New Haven.
New Haven is shaped heavily by Yale and its hospital, which between them employ a lot of the city. They bring in undergraduates, graduate and medical students, residents, researchers and staff from all over the country and abroad. Many are here for a set stretch, a degree or a residency, and they date while they’re here. The New Haven / Milford group, with about 24,000 members, is where women in that world and women who grew up in the area end up in the same place.
Graduate and professional students make up much of the university, and hospital staff work nights, weekends and long rotations. Dating fits around those schedules, and a lot of it happens on the apps, often between people in different departments or different buildings who have no friends in common. A woman might go on a date with someone and know only his first name, his program and the photos on his profile. Posts here tend to reflect that, which is why we search with your photos first.
East and west of the city, the shoreline towns set their own pace. Milford, which shares the group’s name, sits to the west. Branford, Guilford and Madison stretch east along Route 1 and I-95. Many people who work in New Haven live in these towns and commute in, and the group covers them as fully as the city itself. In summer, the beaches and town greens bring in visitors, and the dating pool widens for a few months.
New Haven sits in the middle of the state’s group map. Hartford is up I-91 to the north, and Fairfield County is down I-95 and the Metro-North line to the west. Both have larger groups than New Haven, and women near the edges often belong to more than one. A man in Milford could plausibly appear in the Fairfield County group, and one in Wallingford in the Hartford group. Since New Haven is also the end of the line for trains to Grand Central, some people here date into New York as well.
We start with the New Haven / Milford group, then look at the Hartford and Fairfield County groups and the New York City ones, the places a New Haven post is most likely to be shared. If you’re here for a program and came from somewhere else, put your previous city on the order and we’ll search it as well.
You’ll have a plain answer before your next shift or seminar, without having to ask anyone for it.
Admins screen people before they’re let in, and men are turned away. There is no visitor view and no way to browse from outside.
Posts don’t show up on Google or in Facebook search outside the group. If you’re in a post, it exists only for the people inside.
Getting a friend to look means telling her why. Most men would rather not, and one person scrolling a busy group can easily miss a post.
By your first name and age, by the photos you upload, and by any dating app handles or nicknames you give us. Photos matter most: many posts are just a screenshot of a profile with no name attached.
A written report by email. If something is there, you get a direct link to the post, screenshots, the date it went up, and how much attention it has had. If nothing is there, we say so plainly and list everywhere we looked.
Tea is the other place men get posted, and it works differently from the groups. It’s one app for the whole country rather than a group per city, but every post is filed under a location. A post about you will usually sit under New Haven, or under wherever she was when she wrote it.
Like the groups, Tea is women-only and identity-verified, so you can’t see it yourself. A Group Check doesn’t include Tea. If you want both searched, the Full Check covers Tea, the groups and your photos in one report.
A researcher searches the groups by hand and sends you a plain yes or no, with the evidence if there is any. We never post, comment or contact anyone, and nobody can see that you searched.
Turnaround is 24 hours, and you don’t need to be available for any of it. You fill in the order form when it suits you, and the written report arrives by email.
Yes. The New Haven / Milford group covers the shoreline towns east and west of the city, including Branford, Guilford and Madison. We search it first for anyone living along that stretch.
Yes. Tell us where you lived before and anywhere else you’ve dated, and we’ll include those groups alongside the New Haven, Hartford and Fairfield County ones.
