The Atlanta group

(01)

“Are We Dating The Same Guy” is a network of private Facebook groups, each one tied to a city or region. Women join the group for where they live, post a photo or a screenshot of a man they’ve met or matched with, and ask whether anyone else knows him. Here is how that works in Atlanta.

One group name, a whole state

The main group here is called “Are We Dating The Same Guy? | Atlanta / Athens / Marietta / Georgia,” and the name is a fair description of who joins it. With about 90,000 members, it pulls in women from Midtown apartments, Marietta subdivisions, a college town well east of the city and towns across the rest of Georgia.

For a man in Atlanta, that means the women reading a post about him aren’t only the ones he might meet on a Friday night in Buckhead. They include women who matched with him once while visiting the city, and women who moved away some time ago but never left the group.

ITP, OTP and the Perimeter

Atlantans sort themselves by the Perimeter, the interstate loop that circles the city. Inside it are Midtown, Buckhead, Decatur, the Old Fourth Ward and the neighborhoods close to downtown. Outside it are Marietta and the rest of Cobb County, northern suburbs such as Alpharetta and Roswell, and the long spread of Gwinnett. Plenty of people date across that line, which is part of why the group covers so much ground.

A date between someone in Decatur and someone in Marietta often means a long stretch of traffic and a meeting point somewhere in between. When two people come from different parts of the metro, they tend to share few mutual friends, so a woman with doubts is more likely to ask the group than ask around.

Athens and the university years

Athens is part of the group’s name for a reason. The University of Georgia brings in a steady stream of students and young graduates, and many of them move to Atlanta for work afterward. Moving doesn’t mean leaving a group behind, and a woman who knew a man in Athens may well be scrolling the same group from an apartment in Midtown later on. A man who dated there during or after college can still be recognized by women who now live in the city.

How we search for an Atlanta post

We start with the main group and then work through the surrounding groups where a post about you is likely to turn up: those covering Athens, Marietta and the northern suburbs, and those covering Georgia as a whole. If you’ve lived or dated somewhere else, whether that’s Savannah, Birmingham or Charlotte, note it on the order form and we’ll cover it too.

A straight answer, ITP or OTP

Some men start wondering after a friend says “I think I saw you in that group.” Others have no tip-off at all and simply want to know before a relationship becomes serious. A clear written result, whatever it says, is easier to live with than a question you keep turning over on the drive home.

Why you can’t check it yourself

(02)
01

It’s women-only

Admins screen people before they’re let in, and men are turned away. There is no visitor view and no way to browse from outside.

02

Nothing is public

Posts don’t show up on Google or in Facebook search outside the group. If you’re in a post, it exists only for the people inside.

03

Asking around tells people

Getting a friend to look means telling her why. Most men would rather not, and one person scrolling a busy group can easily miss a post.

What we search for Atlanta

(03)
  • The main Atlanta groupThen the groups around it, because posts are often shared on from one group to the next.
  • Groups covering Athens
  • Groups covering Marietta and the northern suburbs
  • Georgia-wide groups
  • The Are We Dating The Same Guy appThe network now has its own app. We search that too.

How we search

By your first name and age, by the photos you upload, and by any dating app handles or nicknames you give us. Photos matter most: many posts are just a screenshot of a profile with no name attached.

What you get back

A written report by email. If something is there, you get a direct link to the post, screenshots, the date it went up, and how much attention it has had. If nothing is there, we say so plainly and list everywhere we looked.

The Tea app in Atlanta

(04)

Tea is the other place men get posted, and it works differently from the groups. It’s one app for the whole country rather than a group per city, but every post is filed under a location. A post about you will usually sit under Atlanta, or under wherever she was when she wrote it.

Like the groups, Tea is women-only and identity-verified, so you can’t see it yourself. A Group Check doesn’t include Tea. If you want both searched, the Full Check covers Tea, the groups and your photos in one report.

Atlanta questions

(05)
I live OTP in Alpharetta. Would I show up in a group with Atlanta in the name?

Quite possibly. The main group names the whole state, and women from the northern suburbs join it as readily as women in Midtown. We search it alongside the groups covering the suburbs.

I went to UGA and moved to Atlanta after graduating. Should I mention Athens?

Yes, it helps. Athens is already in the main group’s name, but telling us you dated there means we look more closely at the groups covering Athens too. Add it in the notes on the order form.

I’m moving to Atlanta for work. Is there any point checking before I arrive?

It can be. If you’ve already been matching with women in Atlanta or visiting regularly, a post could exist before you’ve moved. A check now gives you a clear starting point, and you can add the city you’re leaving on the order form.
